Parliamentary Activities
The Israel Association for Immigrant Children acts to make sure that decision makers hear the voices of our target population. To this end, IAIC initiates the discussion of assorted issues in various Knesset committees.
During the term of the 16th Knesset, IAIC initiated a lobby headed by MK Dr. Marina Solodkin, which worked to advance a number of issues. Among them were the rights of immigrant students facing matriculation exams, and rights of children lacking legal status.
During the 17th Knesset term, IAIC was instrumental in the establishment of a sub committee of the Parliamentary Committee for the Absorption of Children and Youth, headed by MK Zeev Elkin. During this Knesset term, IAIC initiated legislation for Equal Integration of Immigrants in the Education System. Based on IAIC’s initiative, MKS from different political parties proposed legislation that passed through the legislative process despite government opposition. MKs that are partners to this initiative are Rabbi Michael Malkior, Dr. Marina Solodkin, Silvan Shalom, Joseph Shagal, Alex Miller, and Robert Eyaltov.
IAIC employs a lobbyist of it’s own in the Knesset that is active on the organizations’ behalf.
